POSITION TITLE:    Agricultural Business Loan Officer          DEPARTMENT:        Lending

REPORTS TO:           SVP, Business Lending                        FLSA STATUS:         Exempt

 

Position Description: Ag Business Loan Officer will assist members with their agricultural lending needs. Responsible for developing and servicing loan volume for the market in which s/he operates. This will include member relations and the generation of new business in accordance with the goals and objectives of the Credit Union. Represents the Credit Union in the local community through active participation in community activities.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Support the Credit Union's strong relationship culture through on going member contact, personalized service and superior product knowledge. Responsible to strengthen current relationships and help attract prospects to the Credit Union. This will be accomplished through understanding the full account relationships with members and making sales calls to solicit additional product sales.
  • Interview loan applicants, obtain all of the necessary documentation to make the loan decision, properly secure the collateral used to qualify for the loan, and approve the loan. Provide information to the membership concerning the different types of loans offered, the terms and interest rates, and the documentation needed to be considered for a loan. Provide financial counseling to members in the wise use of credit.

  • Make loan decisions in a timely fashion to meet member needs. Work closely with the credit analysis team to ensure high quality loan decisions, structure loan financing based on risk considerations. Present credits for approval to Credit Committee for approval, up to appropriate levels of authority, according to Credit Union policy and procedures and in compliance with regulations.

  • Make counter offers to borrowers that are creditworthy but cannot qualify for the loan they requested.

  • Maintain and keep current loan information including such things as: borrower account number, borrower name, amount of loan granted, interest rate, maturity, collateral used to secure the loan and any comments; for denied loans include the borrower name, amount of the request, collateral offered to secure the loan, and the reason for the denial.

  • Stay current on all policies, procedures, regulatory requirements and regularly participate in various training to stay current with lending skills.

  • Assist the SVP in analyzing the Credit Union's lending performance annually.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Performance Measures:

  • Members are served in a manner that builds strong business relationships, questions are answered accurately, courteously and promptly. Tasks are completed accurately and efficiently.

  • Loans granted are sound and collectible and members' credit needs are met effectively.

  • Sales goals are achieved.

  • Loan portfolio quality meets Credit Union policies and underwriting guidelines, and supports the strategic objectives for the portfolio.

  • Strong working relationships with management and co-workers across all departments.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree or equivalent business experience, preferably in finance or a related field.

EXPERIENCE: 5+ years of lending experience, with knowledge of market conditions, credit analysis, portfolio management and lending regulations. Demonstrated sales ability.

SKILLS: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong math and analytical skills; attention to detail; strong interpersonal and organizational skills and ability; and strong sales ability. Above average skill level with computers and technology, including financial software.
